BostInno compiled a list of 10 Boston-local companies with humble beginnings in the MIT Media Lab. While the Media Lab isn't a startup incubator, there are many great Boston companies that started in the Lab as academic research projects. Topping the list of 10 is Affectiva, led by Dr. Rosalind Picard, a 2016 WEAR Conference speaker during the session on Wearables for Health, Wellness and Medical Use. Affectiva uses algorithms to measure and analyze facial expression using the interdisciplinary computer science known as Affective Computing - thus enriching technology for work or play.
